DESCRIPTION:
The ASAM Criteria from the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), is the nation’s most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for placement, continued stay and transfer/discharge of patients with addiction and co-occurring conditions. The Criteria focuses on six dimensions of patient care to create a holistic, biopsychosocial assessment of an individual and is used for service planning and treatment across all services and levels of care. The ASAM Criteria is an indispensable resource that addiction professionals rely on to provide a nomenclature for describing the continuum of addiction services.
But these Criteria can often be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Marvis Doster, a leader in the behavioral health field, will explain how to utilize the ASAM Criteria which, according to ASAM is “a holistic approach for determining individualized and outcome-driven treatment plans for patients.”
OBJECTIVES:
Attendees will learn basics of how to use the Criteria as a guide to “assist a patient from assessment through treatment.”
Attendees will learn a multidimensional approach for how to determine the patient’s goals and risks and where to focus treatment and services.
Attendees will be introduced to how to utilize the Criteria to determine intensity and frequency of service needed.
