Our Vision

Our Values

Compassion. Connection. Integrity.

Our History

In the early 1970s, a small group of Fargo-Moorhead citizens recognized a critical need in their community: a halfway house for people seeking recovery from substance use. In the late 1970’s, ShareHouse Inc. opened its doors as North Dakota’s first public halfway house, offering six beds to individuals seeking help.

As demand grew, ShareHouse expanded its facilities, moving to a larger apartment complex in 1989 and later adding another residential location. Today, ShareHouse operates two locations in Fargo and Grand Forks with 103 beds and a full continuum of recovery services. Over its 50-year history, ShareHouse has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community beyond residential treatment, adding walk-in assessments, outpatient care, telehealth services, mental health treatment, recovery residence, and more.

Care You Can Trust

Recovery looks different for everyone. Wherever you’re starting from, you deserve to be treated with respect.

We provide care for adults (18+) seeking treatment for substance use. We also partner with community organizations and referral professionals to ensure people can access care when and where they need it.

Choosing the right care matters. Our commitment to quality, safety, and ethical treatment is backed by accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an international, independent, nonprofit organization that evaluates and accredits health and human services providers. These standards reflect the level of care clients can expect.

In 2025, ShareHouse celebrated its 50th anniversary, achieving CARF accreditation with zero recommendations, joining the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers, and implementing a new electronic health record system to enhance care delivery and outcomes tracking. Through innovation, community engagement, and a steadfast commitment to individualized care, ShareHouse continues to serve thousands of adults and families, in the upper Midwest helping them find stability, health, and hope.
